Over a long time Alexey Starkov, a Nizhny Novgorod artist, has been collecting photographs left in abandoned houses by people who used to inhabit them. Based on these photos, Starkov creates paintings, almost the same in size as the photographs. These paintings, however, are very much different in other aspects: for example, the artists never paints the faces of the people in them, leaving only a blank spot instead.
With Alexey we walked to a wooden house in one of Nizhny Novgorod districts that dates back to 1833. We were looking for photographs and speaking about his project, imagination and the conceptual peripheries of the city.
